Hanni El Khatib at Manchester Castle Hotel (1st Feb 2012)

Binary at Manchester The Castle Hotel (19th Jan 2012)

First gig of the year for me tonight – went to the Beta night at The Castle. Neat idea – ‘like’ the clubnight’s page on Facebook and get free entry to the show.

Tonight’s line-up was Mount Fabric and Binary. I missed the first band as I was watching a screening of Urbanized at the Deaf Institute (excellent film btw), but here’s a few photos of the second band – Binary:

Ryan Adams – Live on Letterman, New York City (5th Dec 2011)

Still can’t believe I managed to blag a ticket to this — I literally begged on Twitter (to no avail) — in the end I think the people doing guestlist on the door took pity on me and let me in around 5 minutes before showtime :)

What’s even more unbelievable is that once inside the Letterman studio an announcement over the tannoy actually encouraged the audience to take photos/videos and Tweet and update your Facebook about the event whilst it was being livestreamed to the web. I’d seen Ryan Adams play eight shows in 2011 up to this point and at every single one there was a strict no camera policy.

Here’s a quick photo – I have a few more to upload yet…

Including the two New York shows I saw, that took my total up to ten Ryan Adams shows this year:

2011-06-16 London Barbican, England
2011-06-23 Manchester Bridgewater Hall, England
2011-10-27 London Union Chapel, England
2011-11-01 London Cadogan Hall, England
2011-11-02 Paris Le Trianon, France
2011-11-05 Brussels Cirque Royal, Belgium
2011-11-08 Gothenburg Konserthuset, Sweden
2011-11-12 Malmo St.Johannes Church, Sweden
2011-12-05 NYC Live on Letterman, USA
2011-12-06 NYC Carnegie Hall, USA

I was able to fund this insane European/US roadtrip thanks to some incredibly lucky gambling back in August. I backed Man City to score four goals in the second half when they were 0-0 at home to Swansea at half time (15th Aug, finished 4-0), and I also landed a 5-team accumulator at 74/1 (permed every combination so it was effectively 50 bets across those 5 teams) on the weekend Man Utd thumped Arsenal 8-2 (28th Aug), and later on that same day I backed Ronaldo to get a hat-trick at 14/1. I promised myself I’d spend the winnings on my first proper holiday in 11 years.

VIDEO: Real Estate live at Salford Islington Mill (24th Oct 2011)

Here’s a quick video from last night’s Real Estate show for Now Wave. Due to some lucky scheduling I was able to see Laura Marling at the Cathedral and then jump in a taxi to Salford and only miss a couple of Real Estate tunes.

All The Same

Take a listen on Spotify to Real Estate’s new album ‘Days’ (or pick it up from Amazon) – I’ve had it on solid repeat for the past coupla weeks. Wonderful stuff.

Miniature Dog Show at Manchester Spinningfields (part 1)

Here’s a random post that’s a little different from my usual concert photos & videos…

Last week my friends saw an advert for a ‘miniature dog show‘ in Spinningfields and thought it would be a laugh to go down and take some photos. I’d usually struggle to get up early on a Saturday morning, but giving up alcohol for a few weeks means no hangovers. Unfortunately my two other friends (whose idea it was to go) didn’t get up and missed a hilarious (& cute overload) morning.

I’m mainly putting these up as I’ve no way of contacting any of the dog owners to show them the photos. You’re welcome to use the images on your blogs/Facebook etc but please provide a text link back "Photo: Jim Hobbs |"

If you’d like me to remove any images or want more info then please get in touch. Alternatively use the comments section at the end of the blog post.

Ok… so I took literally hundreds of photos – here’s the first batch of them. Funtimes!

(tip: you can click through on this first image below and then keep clicking on the image to cycle through all the full-size photos. Apologies but the site layout is a bit wonky at the moment.)
